Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about our DFS Sims for FanDuel.
What is the purpose of this site?
To provide statistically advantageous lineups for Daily Fantasy Sports on FanDuel—without requiring an expensive subscription. For just 50 cents, you can run your own custom simulation to boost/lower player exposures and backtest your strategy. If you prefer to stick with the free boilerplate simulations and backtests, that works too. Ultimately, our goal is to give DFS players access to interesting, competitive lineups without breaking the bank or needing statistical expertise.
Why only 50 cents per Custom Sim?
Because you shouldn’t need a $200/month subscription to compete against the best. To our knowledge, there is no other offering that can give you ~500 quality lineups for this price.
How long does it take to run a simulation?
Lightning fast: about 45 seconds.
Are the backtests accurate?
Currently, MLB and NHL backtests are usually within +/- 10 points of the true scores while NFL scores omit contributions by the defenses. NBA backtesting is accurate.
When are the boilerplate simulations available? When can I run custom simulations?
For same-day DFS contests, simulations start running around 90 minutes prior to contest start time. We generally recommend pulling lineups closer to lock time to reduce the risk of needing late swaps. Note that the boilerplate simulations are randomly selected, so you’re more likely to have late scratch or bench players with the free sims than with the custom sims (assuming you run the custom sims closer to lock). Because the data is often not refreshed immediately, make sure to omit those players when you make your final selections.
Why not DraftKings?
This is currently a beta product. If enough users express interest, we may expand to DraftKings in the future.
Why only Main slates?
Because large GPPs offer more bragging rights.
What “edge” does this site provide?
The simulations increase exposure to players with a high probability of outperforming expectations who are also relatively under-owned. On some days this contrarian strategy works very well and on others, less so. If you want to deviate significantly from the boilerplate sims, expand your Player Pool. Adding 25 or more players to your custom simulation will create the largest deviations.
How do I use Custom Simulations effectively?
Start by identifying a handful of players you’re interested in—quality matters more than quantity.
- To simply increase exposure, add them to the Player Pool.
- You can also drop them altogether if you wish.
- To increase or decrease their projections, use the Modify Projections feature. This is a more nuanced feature than the Player Pool: you can increase or decrease a player's projection by -10 to +10 standard deviations.
Note: The more players you include in your Player Pool, the further your results will deviate from the boilerplate simulations. Personally, we usually add fewer than 5 players.
When narrowing down a smaller set of lineups:
- Sorting by Min Projection generally lowers your median and increases variance.
- Sorting by Max Projection does the opposite.
For what it’s worth, we usually prefer Max Projections.
Do my credits ever expire?
Nope!
